Dr. Kathy DumbletonDr. Kathy Dumbleton is a clinical scientist and educator with more than 30 years of experience in vision research, with specific interests in contact lenses, the ocular surface, dry eye, visual performance and compliance (adherence) with health care treatments. Kathy has excellent organizational, analytical and communication skills and is well connected within the ophthalmic and scientific community.

Kathy has extensive experience and a proven track history in:

  • Clinical study concept and design
  • Protocol development
  • Preparation of ethical application dossiers
  • Professional and patient surveys
  • Study management
  • Report and medical writing and other communications
  • Preparation and presentation of scientific abstracts, posters and papers
  • Preparation and delivery of presentations for continuing education meetings

Kathy trained as an optometrist in the United Kingdom and completed her MSc in Physiological Optics and PhD in Vision Science at the University of Waterloo in Ontario, Canada. She has held academic appointments at the University of Waterloo and the University of Manchester. While at the University of Waterloo Kathy was Head of Clinical Research at the world renowned Centre for Contact Lens Research. Kathy is currently a Clinical Associate Professor at the University of California, Berkeley.

As author of close to 150 peer-reviewed publications and abstracts, seven book chapters and a large number of professional manuscripts; Kathy is a proficient medical writer. She is also an accomplished educator and has been invited to give continuing education talks and courses around the world.

Kathy is also the Immediate Past President of the American Optometric Foundation and in addition to her professional activities is widely recognized for her philanthropic activities and fundraising efforts.
